Job Summary:
As a French Navy Air Operations Controller (COA), you play a vital role in the planning, execution, and debriefing of naval aviation missions. You’ll be at the core of operational command, supporting aircraft crews during combat, training, and surveillance operations. Your expertise will be essential in aero-maritime operations, military intelligence, and the deployment of aerial systems, missiles, and onboard sensors.
This career offers a unique blend of operational fieldwork and strategic oversight, both on land and at sea. You’ll advise pilots, command staff, and other military stakeholders while navigating joint military environments, including international and inter-service operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage aerial missions during operations, exercises, and deployments.
- Provide operational and tactical guidance to aircrews and command structures.
- Develop expertise in naval aviation including helicopters, fighter jets, maritime patrol aircraft, and drones.
- Progress into roles in mission planning, intelligence analysis, and strategic operations.

Location:
Assignments may be based in:
Paris, Brest, Toulon, Lorient, Lanvéoc, Landivisiau, Lann-Bihoué, Hyères – or overseas on naval vessels.
High probability of deployment aboard aircraft-capable naval ships.

Training Pathway:
- 5 months of leadership training at the Naval Academy in Lanvéoc-Poulmic.
- 3-week unit integration program.
- 5 months of specialized training at the Naval Aviation Training Center in Lann-Bihoué (CEFAé).
- For those joining the Carrier Air Group (GAé), an additional 1-year intelligence course (ORIA) is required.

Candidate Profile – Who We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree (Bac+3) or higher required. Preferred backgrounds include:
- Engineering
- Political Science
- History/Geography
- Science Prep School or competitive engineering entrance exam eligibility
- Strong interest in aviation, naval operations, and military intelligence.
- Fluent in English; strong communication and analytical skills.
- Adaptable, stress-resistant, team-oriented, and a natural leader.
Minimum Requirements:
- French nationality
- Completion of Defense and Citizenship Day (JDC)
- Aged 21 to 26 at time of recruitment
- Physically and medically fit
- Ability to swim
- Proficient in English (spoken and written)

- 18–26 years: technical roles, officer training, or enlisted programs
- 27–33 years: specialized officer contracts, operations, and intelligence roles
